My Top 5 Moments of 2013

Hey guys! I'm just saying that cause idk if people even read this lol. Well sorry I slacked last week. Was busy with Christmas and all haha. Well tomorrow is the final day of 2013. How is that even possible? This was the best year of my life and I just wish I could relive it over and over. I graduated High School and started college. Stuff like that so in this post I'm gonna list my top 5 moments from 2013 so be ready...

5. Meeting Mac Powell (Lead Singer of Third Day)
Yes, I did not get to talk to him much, but he is one of the nicest and most collected people I have ever met. On stage or listening to his music you would never guess, but in the 30 seconds I got to talk to him, he seemed quiet and shy haha. I've actually met a lot of artists that are like this. They are crazy and fun while performing live, but when you talk to them in person, they are quiet. In my opinion, its better that way because they aren't all braggy about how popular they are. I like that.

4. Getting My First Tattoo
Well, let me tell you, I wanted to get one this year, but honestly never thought I would get one. The ONLY reason I have one is because I won a $100 gift card from Devoted Ink in Temecula, California and I think I will go there whenever I have money for a second tat. They did an amazing job and their rates are pretty good. If you live in the Lake Elsinore area, I HIGHLY suggest going their. Rob and Matt are the two tattooists there and I linked to the site so you can see some of their work. They even just hired a new piercer if you want any new piercings.

3. Working At the Fair
Let me say, it was so fun to work at a fair and is truly a unique experience and I think everyone should try it out because, not only is it fun, it is also a really good place to gain work experience. One of my favorite parts about working there was (of course knowing me) was meeting new friends. Most of the people I worked around were really cool people and I loved having conversations with them. The other awesome part about working there was all the bands/artists I got to see live. Which leads right into the next favorite part of 2013.

2. Seeing Train Live
Now this was always one of my dreams and when I found out that I could do it for only $19, I couldn't refuse. I'm glad I paid that money because these days, you really can't see a mainstream artist for that much, and I was pretty close for that cheap. AND it was the best band I have ever seen live, so it was just perfect, considering they also played a 2-hour set, including some old favorites like "Meet Virginia" and my personal favorite "Drops of Jupiter." I highly suggest seeing them live if you ever get a chance.

1. GradNite at Disneyland
Ever since I found out Disneyland did this (which was about 7th grade) I have looked forward to it. Back then, I would have never guessed that I would be going to it with a bunch of people I never met until that actual night. And never did I think that I would have the best night of my life with them either. There were dance parties (which I loved), exclusive merch, exclusive World of Color, etc. It was all amazing. One of my favorite parts was getting to know all of them and going on all the rides with them. Another awesome part was ending the night at Ihop and getting Tiramisu pancakes.

2013 was the best year of my life and those 5 favorite parts doesn't even shed a light on how awesome a year it was. God put made it such an awesome year because He felt it was a good time for me to have a good year, and I'm glad. I made more friends than I thought possible too, which was really humbling. I hope you all had a good 2013, too and may God bless your 2014.

I Love Songs About Sex

Well good Tuesday morning guys! I literally have been on Christmas break for about 20 minutes as I am writing this. Well I have finally kept to my promise and am doing a weekly post. I just came up with this idea a couple days ago when I was listening to Switchfoot and Lecrae. You are probably wondering how does sex have ANYTHING to do with Christian music? Well it does! Read on and I will tell you.

Premarital sex just keeps rising rates. I was in the class of 2013 and out of all of the 2013 graduates from High School in America, there were only 23% that were virgins. I'm glad to say I was part of 23%. I think it is just sad that God created sex for marriage and less than a quarter of my fellow graduates in June have never had sex. (I got the 23% from mtvU if you're wondering.) I don't even wanna know how much of the 77% are pregnant. It makes me sick to even think about this. Well, let me tell you how all of this relates to Christian music.

I have noticed that more and more "Christian" artists are singing about sex. But, they are singing AGAINST it. Well, they aren't against it. They are just against it before you get married. One of my favorite Switchfoot songs is called "Easier Than Love." In the song, they sing about how sex has become so public. Sex is the world's next "drug" is what they are relating to. They call it a monster. In the song, they are also talking about having a girlfriend and she is "easier than love" because people really only "fall in love" to have sex these days. It is such a monster anymore. Its getting almost frightening.

Lemme take a little break to tell you all that I'm not trying to degrade anyone that has had sex, God will forgive you. That doesn't mean go on and keep doing with with your boyfriend/girlfriend, cuz that just ticks God off. He gives you mercy and then you throw it away by doing exactly what He forgave you for two days ago. Sex is the new drug, it is addicting because it feels so good (from what I have heard). It's just like smoking a cigarette. It's not illegal, unless you are under 18. Except smoking isn't really a sin. But you get diseases from both, so that is where I'm getting at. If you have sex (no matter if it is with a condom or not) you are at high risk to get really bad diseases that will stick with you for the rest of your life and their is no cure. Okay, time to get back on track

Jon Foreman (of Switchfoot and Fiction Family) has written a few songs about how sex has become a monster and so publicized. I mean, you can see girls posting on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with a picture of her and her pregnancy test with a caption that might look something like: "OMG YES! I'M GONNA BE A MOMMY. #BabyInMyTummy #ImGonnaAMommy." It is scary. Because of MTV, girls are trying to become pregnant to be on TV (16 and Pregnant). That where Jon gets at with his songwriting. He is just as scared as any Christian should be for this country. Along with Lecrae. His song "Hallelujah" talks about his old life and how he used to sleep with a different woman every night. But now, he uses his talent of rapping to sing how God has saved his life. Which is amazing because it is hard to comeback from a life of hell.

In conclusion, sex is not bad. Sex is a very beautiful thing created by God for marriage. Not saying you can't be forgiven if you have. God is the most forgiving being I know. He is the Holy Spirit. He has seen worse hell than you and your partner naked on a bed. Trust me. As long as you don't keep going back, He will forgive you. They say it only takes 3 weeks to stop an addiction. If that doesn't help, then it is time to call your relationship over. God loves everyone who reads this :) And so do I :)

Until Next Time,
Alex

Why Am I So Obsessed With Switchfoot?

Why am I so obsessed with Switchfoot? Why are they even my favorite band when I used to hate them (not even kidding)? I sometimes ask myself the same questions. In fact, it is probably every day that I ask myself that. They are the only band that I listen to on a daily basis. Is it that Surfer Indie Rock that I like? Well that is part of it. I did get my heart broken at the first concert I saw with them. That is maybe a huge reason why they are my favorite. Even though I was never in the relationship, it broke my heart what the girl said to me (which I will not say what). Yes, I was heartbroken but I'm just thinking I CANNOT enjoy a concert if I'm just going to be depressed the whole time. So I just put the depression off and after the concert, I never really felt sad or depressed. Was it their music that helped me? Probably so. Not saying I never went into it (because I was depressed from about a few days later until about September). But that is not the point here. I liked them since "Stars" was released but never in a million years did I think they would be my favorite, considering I was into harder rock at the time. They are one of the bands that God put in my life to help me get out of the slump I was in. I will say it did suck, though. But you know what I did? I listened to Switchfoot every day of my depression. My youth pastor (who, at the time, I haven't talked to in at least 2 years) Saw my posts on Facebook and, being a former youth pastor, sensed something was wrong. So, amazingly enough, he still had my number and asked if he could call me up. Of course, I agreed. He was the one person, besides my family, that I can still talk too and get Godly advice from, which is just awesome knowing that. We were on the phone for about an hour and we talked about just about anything we could. Even though he called me at the beginning stages of my depression, and I never felt better until a couple month later, he texted me and checked up to make sure I was getting better. That helped. But once again, I am off subject lol.

Switchfoot came into my life when I was just 10 years old (I turn 20 next year). Most of the time, I didn't like their music. But something changed the night I first saw them live. They got my mind off of things for a couple hours. My two favorite songs by them are "The War Inside" and "Souvenirs." Why? Because I relate to those songs. More recently, I love their new single "Love Alone Is Worth the Fight." It is from their upcoming January 14th, 2014 release "Fading West." That song has such a powerful message and has such amazing lyrics, which is probably a reason Jon Foreman is the reason I started writing lyrics. I have written lyrics about God, girls and life. Which is what all of SF's songs are about. I one day dream to write a song with Jon Foreman, because not only is he the front-man of my favorite band, he is also my hero and favorite songwriter. So thanks boys, for being with me in spirit and in song over the past year with my battle with depression. Can't wait till June to see you live again at the annual show at the SD Fair! See you then guys :)

Until Next Time,
Alex Vanderspek

Happy Thanksgiving! :)

Well hello guys! Haven't done a post like this in awhile. Well Thanksgiving is in just two short days! You know one of the reasons I like it is you can eat as much as you want and no one judges you hahaha. Its hard to work off all those calories, but luckily, I'm going to Disneyland all day the next day, so since I will be walking most of the day, It will be easy to work off. Well, that isn't the only reason I love thanksgiving. The main reason I love it is you are with friends and family and you go around and say what you're thankful for. If I said everything I'm thankful for, I don't think this blog post would ever be done. Some of the biggest things are God, my family, and my friends. I wouldn't be here without God, so that's a given haha. My family are the only people who will love me forever, and my friends (even though I only have a few) I'm thankful for, also. I guess what I'm trying to tell all of you is, if you don't feel like anything anything in your life is positive, cause God is here. He will give you a life like you have never imagined and if you haven't discovered that yet, I suggest doing it soon, cause not even Jesus knows when he is coming back. It might be right now, or it could be in another million years. So just know He is always there if you need someone to talk to. He has gotten me through so much crap in my life. Whether this post touches one or a million life, I want it to be an impact. Share this with a friend who seems like they are down, cuz with my and God's help, you may save a life. I'll leave you with a verse from the Bible:

Give thanks to the LORD for His love endures forever
   - 1 Chronicles 16:34, NLT

God bless you on this Thanksgiving holiday,
Alex

Album Review: Talking Dreams by Echosmith

What comes to your mind when you hear the name Echosmith? More than likely nothing. YET. For me, it is the band of Sierota siblings that I have fallen in love with over the past year or so. They are indie pop band that has songs about various issues in today's world including love, bullying, etc. They have also gone on tour with some pretty big bands including Owl City, Maroon 5, and the Van's Warped Tour. I have enjoyed watching them grow up (being a fan of them since 2009) and get their slow fame. They all deserve it and they will soon become a household name.

The album's opening track is "Come Together." It is a song that focuses on a group of people reaching toward a similar goal, in their case, fame. Its a great way to open the album and introduces what the album is gonna sound like really well. "Let's Love" is the song that the band's first t-shirt was based off of. Its duet-ish track about a boy and girl falling in love and they don't want to waste it because life is short.

"Cool Kids" is a song that every kid who is bullied needs to listen to. These days, a lot of suicides are caused by bullies. In the song a girl wishes she was like the cool kids because she feels like she is a social reject. The album's 4th track is "March Into The Sun." To me, it has a very similar sound to The Lumineers song "Ho Hey." It's another song about falling in love and you just feel like you will never end.

Another love song is "Come With Me." Its talking about a couple that recently got together and they are showing each other around and all the things they like. My personal favorite song on the album is "Bright." I'm a sucker for a good ballad and goodness, this one is just so amazing. I feel like the band took what I'm looking for in a relationship and put it in a song. Its referring to you love the person so much that you are literally shining bright, like a star.

The album's seventh track, is also the title track of the album ("Talking Dreams"). The song is basically a recap on what the band has been through over the past couple years. It's like all their dreams are coming true. Girls are very sensitive and emotional at times. That is basically what "Tell Her You Love Her" is about. When a girl tells you she loves you, you better say it back. When you're in a relationship, always give her A LOT of compliments.

"Ran Off In The Night" is the album's 8th track and its another love song. I interpret it as a couple being judged on their relationship (which happens a lot these days) so they just run away for awhile. I think "Nothing's Wrong" describes all teenagers these days. All of us are always acting like nothing is wrong and that is the best part of being a teen, in my opinion.

"The Safest Place" is about a relationship falling apart. The couple in the song doesn't feel like they feel for each other anymore so their old story is the safest place they will ever be. The album's final track is "Surround You." It follows is a girl who is fantasizing about a boy she likes. She is dreaming that one day they will be together and their love will surround everyone.

Well all in all, this is just a great album to kick off a career. I'm also proud to call myself one of their first fans. And no matter what ANYONE says, I think the band will agree, that I'm their biggest fan. I will keep supporting them for years to come because they are young and who knows how long they will be together. I just really hope it is at least 50 years. :)

Summer 2013: Who We Are

1 fair job, 9 concerts, 1 graduation, and 4 months later, its crazy to think Summer 2013 is over. I can say though that it was definitely the best Summer so far. Some of the highlights were seeing my favorite band, Switchfoot, for the second time, GradNite, and getting Skillet's first album in almost 4 years. It was just an awesome Summer. I honestly don't think it could have been any better. There were just so many awesome things that happened. Those things I just listed were just highlights, I really couldn't choose a favorite.

June - Finishing School & Starting my First Job

First off, I graduated High School in June and even though I only knew literally one person there, I GRADUATED FREAKING HIGH SCHOOL, KAY? Literally the day after that, I had to start my Summer job, which definitely had it's up and downs. As would any normal job. Some of the perks were all the concerts I went to this month. I literally only paid for two of them, and the rest were free. All the artists I saw live (in June) were Switchfoot, J. Thoven, Victoria Justice, RED, Train, Bridgit Mendler, Colbie Caillat, and Third Day. Let me say, all the bands put on a good show, but Switchfoot was definitely my favorite! I mean, I was literally like next to the stage! Enough about the concerts though. My favorite part of Summer happened in June. It wasn't graduating, wasn't working, wasn't even the concerts! The best memory of Summer was GradNite at Disneyland. It was cool, actually, cause only like 10 people from my class came and we didn't know each other, so it was cool getting to know them/bond with them at Disneyland of all places! That was pretty much my June, but July wasn't all that eventful (to be honest).

July/August - First Experiences of Adulthood

July, like I mentioned, wasn't all that full of anything. It was August that was all fun and everything. At the beginning of August, it was less than 2 weeks till I had my first day of college, which I was overly pumped for. (Fun fact: by the time this is published, I've been in it for over a month.) The week before I started, my family decided to go two SeaWorld twice and take a trip to Los Angeles once. I also got to see Flyleaf and P.O.D. (and sing a little for P.O.D.) on the 9th of August My second favorite part of Summer actually happened the second yime we went to SeaWorld that week. I was just casually in line for a ride, when there is a girl who look A LOT like The Voice's Season 4 winner, Danielle Bradbery. So I'm all freaking out trying to decide whether I should ask her or not. Well, I get over my shyness lol and she says its her and takes a picture with me (above). Like, I wanted to go to The Voice just to see her perform, but I never expected to meet her at SeaWorld, of all places. Literally 8 days after that, I get to go to a Taylor Swift concert (don't judge). Even though I was only 4 rows from being at the very top, I still got to see her in concert, so I am totally fine with that. :) The day after that, I turned 19, which yeah, I'm getting old considering as of right now, I'm only a teenager for 11 months more. :( I forgot to mention, I started college on the 19th of August.

That was pretty much my Summer. I still believe it was the best of my life. God put everything in place at the right moment and I love the way he moves! Fall 2013 is here and now we can hopefully get a relief from all this hellish weather lol. Thanks for reading! :)

Until Next Time, Alex

Echosmith: The Band That Will Be

Echosmith in early 2013

Many bands will make it big. For Echosmith, that just hasn't happened yet. Well, it actually has a little. Having their songs played on ESPN, or having their song "Tonight We're Making History" the theme song for the 2012 Olymipic Ads may make a band big. Sure, and maybe opening up for Owl City or some of the world's biggest Punk and Post-Hardcore will do it. And it seems like the name "Echosmith" is getting around more. 10,619 followers on Twitter and 12,300 "likes" on Facebook may also do the trick. Their debut album Talking Dreams releases in just three weeks (October 1st, 2013) and don't be surprised if you hear this band of siblings on your local pop or indie-rock station. Their name is getting more popular by the minute.

I first discovered the beautiful people of Echosmith when I was at the annual Fishfest in Irvine, CA, when they were a Christian Alternative Rock band. There were Grammy winners/nominees there, but then there was also the very first band to play that day. Their name at the time was Ready, Set, Go! The singer, Sydney Sierota was only a mere 12 years old at the time, while the drummer, Graham was only 10. I thought they were pretty cool, so I go on my computer the next day and find out they have a free song (which made me happy lol). Not only that, but they also had a song on iTunes. I was thinking in my mind, "HEY1 I'll tweet and share this link and maybe it'll get some ground for them. It didn't do anything really. Then about three years later I see a bunch of posts from this band Echosmith. I'm all like "Who are these guys? I never remember liking them on FB. I then clicked on their profile pic and then I recognized who they were. I then saw they had a new song on iTunes (That was also featured in the Olympic commercials) and I almost instantly bought it. Then came the year of 2013.

2013 is when they really blew up. They started the year opening for THREE GRAMMY winning bands that go by the names of Owl City, Maroon 5, and Neon Trees. They were probably freaking out, as would anyone. They decided they need some music released so when they played for those bands, they could have some music out for the fans on the tour to hear. After that tour was a short little break until they got invited to go on the ENTIRE U.S. Warped Tour. They then released a free three-song EP, so they could get even bigger (God-willing). They did and Owl City invited them to go on his Mid-Summer tour, which started just a few weeks after Warped. They most likely couldn't believe it again! That's been their band up until now. But when October 1st rolls around, some people won't buy just one of their albums, but 2 or 3, so their friends will know about this band. With only about 12,000 people knowing them now, I'm guessing they will have 100,000 in about a year! Keep going guys! I love y'all :)

ANOTHER NEW SKILLET SONG! :D

Well, its always nice when you can wake up to a new song by your favorite band! So, when someone who preordered Skillet's album and posted the title track to their new album RISE on YouTube, I freaked out! In my opinion, it is the best song they have ever recorded! Okay! Enough talking! Now shut up and rock to RISE! (:

Album Review: DEMI by Demi Lovato

I think Demi Lovato has one of the most killer voices in music today. She went from Disney Channel star to world famous pop star and The X-Factor judge. On her 4th studio album (and second away from Disney Channel), she discusses all the problems with love and life, as with most pop stars around the world. This album has a little dubstep in it, with techno and maybe a little rock! This may just be one of the greatest pop albums ever released. Everyone! Get ready for 2013 cuz it will most definitely be one of music's biggest years!! I could see DEMI with a GRAMMY next year, probably multiple.

The album starts off with "Heart Attack." It was the album's first single and talks about how she feels like the guy she is currently dating makes her feel so amazing, but at the same time like she isn't worth anything. "Made in the USA" is track number two on the album. It's another love song about how their love is everything that she could ever ask for and nothing will ever stop them.

"Without The Love" is my favorite on the album. I love the wording in the song. My favorite line in the song is "What good is a love song without the love." Its a breakup song about how she never feels like her boyfriend loves her. "Neon Lights" is another killer song. Its a song about how so in love she is with a boy that she is ready to do almost anything with him.

"Two Pieces" is a song about how two lost and broken people end up falling in love with each other. They both feel like they are whole again. They go together like two pieces of a broken heart. "Nightingale is a piano ballad. She is really confused on if she is in a relationship with a boy or not. She wants him to be straight forward and tell her the truth on their relationship.

"In Case" is another piano ballad. AND another lyrical masterpiece. She has a bunch of memories from a relationship and wants to throw them away, but will keep them in case her lover returns. "Really Don't Care" is a fun song that features a verse with British Pop star Cher Lloyd. Its a song that is basically telling the boy she wants nothing to do with him and really could care less what he has to say.

"Fire Starter" is track number 9 on the album. It is a song that is saying if you do anything bad, she will do everything to hurt you and is basically a warning for any guy that wants to date her. Track 10, "Something That We're Not," is another great song both lyrically and musically. It is about how a boy thinks that they are in love, but she says that they aren't and he keeps pressing on

In "Never Been Hurt" she is really in love with a boy and will love him with everything she has. She is going to love him like she has never ever been hurt by boy before. The second to last track is titled "Shouldn't Come Back." She's telling a boy that he shouldn't talk to her ever again. She is ignoring all his calls and he should know why. "Warrior" is basically Lovato's anthem. Every one of her fans know that she struggled with cutting and insomnia a few years back. It's her most honest song to date. In the song, she is basically talking to Satan and is telling him that she will never go back to his ways ever again.

Good pop records are getting harder and harder to make these days because everyone is selling out tours and going triple platinum. If you are a fan of pop music (and amazing voices), I highly suggest buying this album! It is definitely worth every penny spent on it.

Album Review: Native by OneRepublic

OneRepublic has always been one of my favorite bands. The reason is because all of their albums have a different sound to it. Their first one, Dreaming Out Loud, was like piano rock. Number two, Waking Up, was a pop/rock effort, while their latest release, Native, has more of a Gospel Pop sound. Their singer, Ryan Tedder, said this is because he grew up in the church and even though Gospel was the kind of music his church played, since OneRepublic is pop, he wanted to mix the two genres. I have to say, it turned out to be a beautiful masterpiece and once again, this is gonna be in the running for my album of the year for 2013.

The album starts off with "Counting Stars." It is one of my favorites on the album. It is just AMAZING lyrically! Tedder has always been one of my favorite songwriters, and this song proves why. It talks about how one day instead of worrying where the money is gonna come from, we will be one day counting stars in Heaven. Track two, "If I Lose Myself" is the album's second and current single. It starts off with a nice keyboard intro and then Tedder starts singing about if he loses himself, it wants to be in front of the one he loves.

"Feel Again" is one of my favorite songs from the album. Its a song about how you have a bad breakup and then go on a date with a new person and it feels like it was the best night of your life. "What You Wanted" is the fourth track on Native and will be the next single from the album. It's a song talking about how Tedder would do anything to be with his love and will do whatever she pleases.

Track 5 on the album is "I Lived." It is of course another love song. This song is about how after a breakup, it doesn't matter they broke up, he is feeling amazing and alive! "Light It Up" is one of the worst on the album. I really don't like how it sounds. I mean, the lyrics are cool and all, but it is too slow of a track for my taste!

"Can't Stop" is another one of my favorites. It's just another lyrical and instrumental masterpiece from Ryan Tedder. Its one of those songs where you just can't get over a breakup you just had and you can't stop remembering all the memories you made with your significant other. Yet another lyrical masterpiece is "Au Revoir." It's a song that is talking about how you're so in love with someone that you don't feel like yourself and you're just so ready to start a brand new life with that person.

Oh how I love "Burning Bridges!" I love how high Tedder gets his voice in the song! This is likely my second favorite on Native. In it, Tedder refers to a girl that has basically broke all his rules and there is no telling where they are going. It's just such a great feeling and you're in the moment. "Something I Need" I actually don't listen to a lot because it says "damn." I was kind of upset about it because Tedder confesses to be a Christian, yet says that in his song. It's basically a song about a girl who has something he needs and he wants to die.

The last full song on the album is "Preacher." It's a true story Tedder wrote about how his grandfather used to be a preacher. He compares him to a teacher and even quotes something his grandfather said a lot of the time. He says that even though he was really far from rich, don't count his wealth because he is one of the happiest and God-fearing men he knows. The last track, "Don't Look Down," is an almost completely instrumental 90-second with only 4 lines of lyrics. It is a really nice way to end the album.

Well, they have stole my heart once again! The 5 men of OneRepublic never seem to displease me in any way, shape or form. Cursing on only two of their songs of all time is my only complaint about them. But Tedder is just what I want to be if I ever seem to make it in music! I would not at all mind writing and recording a song with him! I would even be pleased with just a handshake! Great job once again boys! Can't wait till number 5!

Album Review: Capital Kings by Capital Kings

What's trending right now in music is dubstep DJ's. And I'll have you know, I never liked dubstep until I heard these guys music. Their names are Jon White and Cole Walowac, better known as the Christian Dubstep/Hip-Hop DJ's Capital Kings. Their name comes from the fact that they are from Washington, D.C. and are sons of the King of Kings, which is Jesus. Their self-titled debut that just released this past January. On the album, you can expect dance and club-ready beats that are sure to get anyone off their feet! And like a lot of other DJ's, most of the songs have features of some of Christian rock and pop's biggest hit-makers and rookie newcomers. Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce you to Capital Kings!

The first song on the album is "All The Way." It starts out with a techno-ish dubstep keyboard intro. When it gets into the chorus, you hear the bass beat for the first time on the song. It's a great song to kick off the album. Song number 2 is titled "We Belong As One" and it features vocals and a rapping hook by tobyMac. It's a song that symbolizes all the Christians in the whole world as one body. It even talks about the future and how we will all come together in the end.

"You'll Never Be Alone" is track number 3 and is the album's first single. The song is from God's viewpoint and is assuring the listener that if they are ever scared or insecure, you'll never be alone because He will always be there for you to talk to. "Living For The Other Side" is my favorite on the album. It features vocals  by Christian pop band Royal Taylor. The song is from a non-believer's point of view and calling us Christians crazy for believing in the unseen, but the crazy thing is that is exactly what Christians believe in. Trusting is believing.

"I Feel So Alive" was the first song we ever heard from the guys of Capital Kings, it was also the title track of their 4-song debut EP. It's a song that is saying that, with God, there is no other way to feel more alive and when He's your God, you will always feel alive. "Ready For Home" is song 6 on the album. It's a song where Jon sings about how now that God has completely changed and revived him, he is ready to die any day and go to Heaven.

"Born To Love," the album's 7th track, features backing vocals by Britt Nicole. It's almost like a duet, that is showing how we are all born to love the whole world, no matter what they mean to us. Until the day we die, we are to love everyone in the world. "Be There" is on the same idea of "You'll Never Be Alone." It is from God's point of view again and says that He will be there through all of our trials and tribulations.

In "Tell Me," the narrator ins insecure about his future and doesn't know if God is there. He is asking God to tell him that He is there and he has someone to talk to when he doesn't feel 100% about his future. The album's closing song is "The Paradigm" and it features vocals from Family Force 5's lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Solomon Olds aka Soul Glow Activatur. It is a dubstep track that talks about making the world have a Revolution to suddenly love God.

If you are a fan of techno or dubstep, I highly suggest getting this album! I never thought I'd ever say this, but I love dubstep lol! But seriously, these guys are now like my 3rd favorite band and I wouldn't mind singin on one of their tracks sometime! Like Cole and Jon, if you see this, could you please take it into consideration? Thanks!!!

Album Review: The 20/20 Experience by Justin Timberlake

It's been 6 long years since Justin Timberlake's last album FutureSex/LoveSounds. During that time, he has acted in the movies The Social Network, Bad Teacher, and Friends With Benefits, wrote songs for Duran Duran and The Loneley Island, and gotten married to actress Jessica Biel. Oh yeah, he was also writing his 3rd and 4th albums, not to mention the least. The will be titled The 20/20 Experience Parts 1 & 2. Each album will have 10 songs, therefore eventually becoming 20 songs. Part 1 released this week, while Part 2 is slated for a November 2013 release. I'm just happy that Timberlake has come SexyBack. (;

The first track on the album is "Pusher Love Girl." Like almost all of his songs, it is about love. When I first heard the song, I thought "What a way to start off an album after hiatus." It starts out with a nice arrangement of strings and then Timberlake starts singing. Like all his songs, it is a song about love. One of my favorite songs on the album is "Suit & Tie." It was Timberlake's first single after hiatus and features rapper Jay-Z. The song is basically saying "What happens in a tux, stays in the tux."

"Don't Hold The Wall" is the album's third track. The track features vocals from Timberlake's producer Timbaland. Its a nice poppy soul song that is very catchy, like most of the album. The song is telling the girl not to just hang on the wall and to dance instead. In "Strawberry Bubblegum," Timberlake is comparing a girl's lips to strawberry bubblegum. I don't know why he made this comparison, but it is a very enjoyable song.

"Tunnel Vision" is track number 5 on the album. I love the lyrics in the song. In the song, Timberlake is "zooming in" so close to a girl, that she is the one person and thing he sees. "Spaceship Coupe" is a very cool song lyrically, once again. It's saying that he wants to alienate him and the girl he is flying into space with. Their coupe only fits the two of them, so their is plenty of room.

"That Girl" is a song in where Timberlake says he in love with a girl, and she says that she is in love with him as well. He doesn't care what people say about them, he loves the girl and will stay together with her forever. "Let The Groove Get In" is my favorite song on the entire album! It is a freakin catchy song that I will keep listening to. If you're gonna buy one song from the album, I HIGHLY suggest this one.

"Mirrors," the album's 9th track, is also the album's second single. In the song, Timberlake compares a girl to a mirror. She is so perfect for him, that whenever he sees her, he feels like is looking in a mirror and sees himself. The final track on the album is "Blue Ocean Floor." In the song, he wants to go to the ocean floor with a girl, so she is safe from everything and nobody can harm her.

This is an amazing album. I know I have said that before, but it is completely true!! It is Soulish-Pop and You need to get this album. I say it is Maroon 5 mixed with Michael Buble. Its crazy cause every song on the album is 4:30 or longer. The whole album turns out to be an hour and 10 minutes. All I have to say is, GET THIS NOW!

Album Review: Closer EP by Jeff Schneeweis

I don't normally review albums, but this guy is a friend so I thought, "What the heck!? Why not?" You may know him from the band Number One Gun. Well, he decided to release a solo Worship EP while NOG was recording their new album (which is coming soon! I'm excited!!!). I personally like the EP! Think Imagine Dragons mixed with Ellie Goulding and you will most likely like the album. I'm not gonna do this like my traditional reviews, just gonna pinpoint on a couple of the songs and why I like them so much!

All the songs on the ep are amazing as I must say! My favorite though will have to be the title track. It has a nice upbeat tune with an almost dubstep part in the intro! It's like any other worship album, just praising God for all he does, Jeff just does it in an upbeat way!!!

Black History Tribute

Well, I know I should've posted this earlier in the month, but i just realized this and it just came to my attention the other day. African-Americans really mean A LOT to me! Like, Michael Buble's jazzy style wouldn't exist without them! Or my personal idol and probably fave artist of all time wouldn't exist (Michael Jackson). I mean, like a lot of the greatest things in life wouldn't exist if it weren't for them! If I lived back in the early 1900's, I would fight hard and I mean HARD for Black Rights. Why would America discriminate them? They went against the Declaration of Independence by not equalizing them to whites! The Declaration of Independence says, "All Men Are Created Equal." It just sickens me to know they were treated so bad! One of my best friends is African-American and she is crazy awesome! We relate so much and I love it! (: I'm just glad America got over their hatred of this race! I really don't have much else to say, I just wanted to get my point out there!

God Gave Me Who? (A Comedic Post About Valentines Day)

Well, Valentines Day is in 3 days and I have officially broken my record of Valentines Days being single. It WAS 17 in a row and now it is 18 in a row! At this rate I will be the 40-year-old virgin. Lol I have never seen that movie and have no desire to either! Valentines Day is just another holiday invented by girls to make their boyfriends spend money on them! I mean like really, we have week-a-versaries, two week-a-versaries and so on. What if this "Holiday" didn't exist? This world probably wouldn't go on rampage, probably the worst we could expect is a strike, which America basically is already on with 7.8% of the pop that is able to work not working, now if we could convince the rest of the world to do that, wow would we be great! Everyone in this country is like Doofenshmirtz! We all say something and think its gonna be amazing, but then a small platypus (In this case, laziness) comes and stops us. Wait!? This doesn't relate to V-Day, oops, Valentines Day? Shoot, I'm sorry!!!! This is supposed to be a Valentines Day post and no one told me! That ain't cool bro! Well, for this guy, this very attractive guy, this guy that, aw, never mind. It's considered "Singles Awareness Day!" Wanna know why? Because all these couples get all lovey dovey just to shove it in all us Singles' faces that we don't a significant other. Well guess what!? I do have one and that is God! I COULD end up being the real life 40-year-old virgin and I could careless if no girl likes me ever! He is the only one that will always and forever love me! So, yes, this post may be very funny, but it wouldn't be funny if God didn't give me this ability! You all need to know this, and I fall short all the time! I really don't have much else to say! I guess I will leave you with a few songs for your listening enjoyment. (: Lol Enjoy! (:
Until Next Time, Alex

Album Review: Release The Panic (Deluxe Edition) by RED

RED has been rocking fans ever since Breathe Into Me premiered back in 2006. They are back with their fourth release that is completely different than their first three releases. For Release The Panic they have taken away the usual orchestra you'd here on their songs. On this album, they replaced the strings with more keyboards and guitars. Release The Panic only really has one ballad on the whole album. The rest of the album is rock your socks off, break your neck, almost metal mixed with pop songs. If you like bands like KoRn or Metallica, then I would HIGHLY suggest buying this album!

The album starts of with the hard-hitting title track. The song is talking about the end times and judgment day. A lot of people aren't going to Heaven and if you don't entirely know, repent of your sins and believe Jesus is alive, or you should release the panic. "Perfect Life" is the album second track and lead single. It is a song about someone wanting a perfect life. Since Jesus was the only one that could have a perfect life, it is a a huge lie.

"Die For You" is the best song on the album, in my opinion. It's a song from God's perspective. He is talking to an unbeliever and trying to get them to believe in Him, because He would die for them every day. "Damage." Man that is the heaviest song on the album. I'd consider it almost hardcore. I love this one just as much as "Die For You." In the song, the .singer feels like all he causes is damage and can't fix it. When he cries out to God, he feels like He isn't listening

I know I keep saying the songs are amazing, but it really is true with the whole album. "Same Disease" is no exception to this. The song is about everyone on earth. Everyone sins, so therefore, they are symbolizing it to a disease. "Hold Me Now" is the only ballad on the entire album. It is an amazing song to listen to if you are feeling depressed. It has such an amazing message to it and it seriously brings me to tears every time I listen to it.

"If We Only" is the seventh track on the album. It seems like a song between God and a person. It's basically a conversation and even though we humans are the victim, God gets all the blame for all of our mistakes. "So Far Away" is another amazing song! (Sorry I keep saying that by the way.) In the song, The singer feels like he is reaching for God, but since He is perfect and we aren't, he feels like God's love is so close, yet it seems like He is so far away.

In "Glass House" RED is symbolizing our souls as a glass house. Since glass is so easy to break, God can break through the house and be the center of our souls and life. "The Moment We Come Alive" is the closing track on the standard edition of the album. The song is talking about how NONE of us are truly alive until we accept that Jesus died for us and then rose again in three days.

"Love Will Leave A Mark" is the first of two bonus tracks on the deluxe edition of the album. We all have a very different and very personal relationship with God. Different kinds of love will leave us all "scarred" in a very unique way. "As You Go" is the final new song on the deluxe edition. In the song, someone the singer loves is leaving and he wants them to know that he is always by their side no matter where they go.

Overall, this album is just amazing! I wouldn't be surprised one bit if it went up for Rock Album of The Year at the 2014 GRAMMYs. It is the perfect mix of Heavy, Almost-Metal Rock and Alternative, "Ballady" Rock. If you are looking for any new music to purchase, I suggest buying this and any other album that comes out this year, because I, for one will most likely go broke on 2013's releases, and that means a bunch of beautiful reviews by me! (:

Album Review: A Messenger by Colton Dixon

Colton Dixon is most known for placing 7th in Fox's 11th season  of American Idol. He's been doing music almost since he was three years old. Although he also plays guitar, he is most known for playing keyboard/piano. He is here with his debut album A Messenger. I'd call the album mostly Lifehouse-sounding with a couple of songs that sound like Muse or Evanescence. Worshipful ballads, such as "You Are" and rock anthems like "In and Out Of Time" make this album perfect for an indie rock fan.

The album starts off with a 48 second intro to the album's lead track "Noise." In the song, Dixon relates days to car alarms. The car alarms then represent all the temptation that the world has out there. It seems that sometimes they are so loud, that we can't hear God's voice. He asks God if he is there and to call his name. At the end, he knows that he will be okay because God is there with him through it all. "I'll Be The Light" is the album's third track. The song is saying that before God, everything was dark and we couldn't see. Once you finally come to and accept His love, God is like a flashlight that helps you see clearly, even in the darkest of nights.

"You Are" is the album's current single. It is a beautiful worship song that's calling God everything. In the bridge of the song, Dixon is saying that if he didn't have a voice or tongue, he would worship God by dancing for him instead of singing. When his day is done, he will shout all the praises to the God who saved his life. The first original song Dixon ever shared with the world was "Never Gone" back in June. It's another Alternative Worship song that is God talking to us when we feel lost and have no sense of direction. He assures us that He "Never, ever left us" and will always be there when we need Him.

The album's sixth track, "Love Has Come For Me," is one of my favorite songs on the album. It's an awesome Christian Rock radio-ready song. In the track, he feels like he is lost and can never get God's forgiveness because he keeps failing. He eventually realizes that Love (God) is there and has always been there and surrenders to It (Him). "Scars" is a Museish sounding song. Muse has those quiet piano ballads that always turns into an anthem rock song. In the song, he feels defeated by his addictions. In the chorus, he states that "Scars remind us of who we are," meaning Jesus' scars after he died on the cross for the world. He gave us His life, so we must eventually give our lives back to Him.

In "Rise," the album's eighth track, is a song that talks about a young girl who abuses herself and has thoughts of suicide. In the song, God tells the girl to rise because He loves her and knows that she has a purpose in her life. "Where My Heart Goes" immediately follows "Rise." It's an awesome song where Dixon is praising God and proclaiming that God is where he wants his heart goes. It's another awesome worship song that he wrote just to praise God in all His awesomeness.

In an interview with Yahoo, Dixon said that "This Is Who I Am" is an anthem saying that everyone will see the world in their own unique and different ways. He said he won't change for anybody, cause everyone has their own little "quirks" or they are weird in their own way, which I find to be just amazing. My all time favorite song on the album is "In And Out Of Time." It is a legit, anthem-ready rock tune. Even though he said that the album is more of a Christian effort, I believe this song would have the most chance going to a Mainstream Rock station. It's a Muse rock sounding tune that explains that we have limited days left because we know Jesus will be coming soon. His past keeps haunting him in the song, so he feels like he's running in and out of time.

The final song on the album is actually a cover. "Let Them See You" was the only song on the record Dixon didn't write. Scotty Wilbanks, who plays keys for the band Third Day, sent him this song on the early stages of working on the album. The song is just his piano and his voice. He said in an interview with Yahoo that he loved putting it on the end of the record, because it describes how he ended Idol and he wanted to end his album in a similar way, with God at the center of it all.

Most of the songs cowritten by guys who penned some of Kelly Clarkson and Switchfoot's biggest hits, this album is sure to also be a hit! A perfect mix of rock and worship make this the perfect record for anyone who likes indie rock. Dixon had a lot to accomplish on this record with both mainstream and Christian fans, and he did it more perfect than ever! This is very likely gonna be among my top 5 records of 2013.

Album Review: Between Here and Lost by Love and Death

Brian "Head" Welch, who is formerly of the band Korn, is at it once again, but this time, with a band. After he departed from the band in 2005, he wrote a book titled Save Me From Myself that released in July of 2007. During the writing of the book, Welch was also writing and recording his debut solo album. The album was also titled Save Me From Myself. It was basically his book, in music, and without explicit language. In 2010, Welch released a new single from his upcoming second solo project, titled Paralyzed. The full album never released and a year later, he announced that his band will now be branded under the name Love and Death. About a year and a half after the announcement, the band released their debut single and EP Chemicals. The EP included 5 tracks (2 original songs, a cover, and 2 remixes). The band then promised a new album by 2013. They are here with their debut album, which is set to release January 22nd.

"The Abandoning," the album's first single, starts out with Welch yelling "Wake up sleepy, Wide awake!" In the opening track, Welch talks about when he was in Korn and all the drugs he did. He felt like not only is he abandoning himself, so is everyone, including God. By the end of the song, he is wide awake for God and His commands. The second track, a cover of Devo's "Whip It," I really can't go into much detail about, because it is a cover of a 1980's pop song. Basically, there are less lyrics than the original version and it is metal.

"Watching The Bottom Fall" is one of the hardest tracks to review on the album. It's hard to interpret, but I think in the song, Welch is talking from two different people's point of view. Although they both commit the same crimes, he can't go through with it anymore and leaves the other. It's also one of my favorites on the album. "By The Way," the album's 4th track, I think, talks about his ex-wife. He loved her, but she was influencing their daughter in such a negative way, so he had to leave her, so him and his daughter could live safely. He says he misses her everyday, and hopes to see her in Heaven in the future.

"Meltdown" is my number one favorite song the album. I love the guitars it has in it. But, like most of the songs Welch writes, its about his addiction to drugs and alcohol. In the song, he has overdosed and feels like he is about to die, and cries out to God to save him and to not to keep. In "My Disaster," Welch feels like God is ignoring him and letting him suffer. He's crying out and asking how God can watch him suffer, when he is the leader of the universe. It's also the song on the album that sounds most like Welch's former band, Korn's, old material.

"I W8 4 U" is the 7th track on the album, and features screams from For Today's lead vocalist, Mattie Montgomery. It's a song that is actually from God's perspective on humans. He will wait for them till the end of the earth and always will. He loves us all and has a different relationship with each and everyone of His children. Christianity is becoming less and less popular in today's world and that's exactly what "Fading Away" talks about. The human race is fading away, so we need to repent to God, or be done. We are His children and need to come to that realization sooner better than later.

"Paralyzed" is included on the album and went to #1 on the iTunes rock chart when it was released back in 2010 and branded under his solo project. It's a song about being so overdosed in drugs that you feel like you can't get back. He cries out to God to save him and get him out. "Chemicals," the third previously recorded song to be featured on the April 2012 EP of the same name. It's a song that talks about being so buried in drugs or depression that it feels like chemicals are clouding your mind. He knows deep inside that he isn't a criminal and hates the chemicals and wants to get out. The final track on the album is "Bruises." Welch said in an interview with Billboard that is it partly inspired by Christians not believing in rock music being combined with Christianity.

I, for one, think this is an amazing album! Both hard rock and metal fans alike will love this album and it is a must buy. Welch has been making music for about 20 years, and ever since his debut solo album released back in 2008, he hasn't ceased to please! If you are a fan of rock music, I highly suggest picking this album up, because you WILL NOT be disappointed.
