My Take on Who 'Blurryface' is & Why He Wants Us Dead

I know I haven't done a review in awhile. This is not technically my usual review style but I wanted to interpret something, or rather someone to a lot of people.

I don't know if you have gotten twenty one pilots' EXCELLENT new record but if you haven't there is something crazy in your brain.

The record is called 'Blurryface.' Although that is the title of the album, it is more the character that is throughout the album who also happens to have the name 'Blurryface.'

I do not know if I can spoil an album but I guess I will put a spoiler alert lol.

First of all, when I listened to the album and looked up the lyrics in the liner notes, I realized more and more who Blurryface is.

Second of all, Josh and Tyler are both Christians and are very open about their faith which is how I came up with this theory. And they do let their faith influence some of the songs on the album but that is coming a little bit later.

From my interpretation, Blurryface is a character that is supposed to represent Satan or the devil. Lets be honest a record named "the devil" or "Satan" would sound weird. The similarities between the two are almost perfect.

Blurryface wants you dead. Satan wants you dead.

Blurryface cares what you think. Satan cares what you think.

They want to get into your mind. Tell you that you aren't good enough. Tell you that you're worthless. Make you depressed. Think of suicide. WANTS YOU TO FOLLOW HIM AND NOT GOD.

Now onto the faith part of this.

Several songs on this record obviously show their faith in God. For example, on Vessel and Regional at Best there is a song called "Holding on to You." It is actually a worship song in case you didn't know.

Blurryface record also has a couple worship songs, rather songs that cry out to God. "Heavydirtysoul," "The Judge" and "Polarize" are a few of them. They want to be saved. They want God to save them from Blurryface.

Another reason I say Blurryface is Satan is because of the lyrics in this album. Whoever this Blurryface character is, he is an evil person or the devil or the anti-Christ. Listen throughout the record and its almost a concept album. By the end of the album, Tyler realizes he has two faces and blurry is not one of them.

Who do you guys think Blurryface is? Do you agree with me? Let me know in the comments!!

Until Next Time,
Alex

  1. I have been in a full-fledged obsession with TOP for about four months now. This week, I have been watching a lot of interviews with Tyler and man, he has a beautiful mind. What a guy.

Anyways, I was driving to work today thinking about the concept of Blurryface and it hit me.... Blurryface is Satan. I then google searched this idea and your post came up.

So refreshing to find someone who is thinking as in depth about their songs as I am. I love them so much.
